Use linseed for:
  1. Ground Linseed: Ground linseed is often used to enhance the nutritional profile of meals. It has a slightly nutty and earthy taste. It is important to consume ground linseed rather than whole seeds to allow your body to absorb the nutrients more effectively. You can grind linseed yourself using a coffee grinder or purchase pre-ground linseed.
  2. Smoothies: Add a tablespoon of ground linseed to your favorite smoothie for an added boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. It blends well with fruits like berries, bananas, and mangoes.
  3. Baked Goods: Ground linseed can be used as an egg substitute in baking recipes. To replace one egg, mix one tablespoon of ground linseed with three tablespoons of water and let it sit for a few minutes until it forms a gel-like consistency. Use this mixture as a substitute for eggs in recipes such as muffins, pancakes, and cookies.
  4. Salads and Yogurt: Sprinkle ground linseed on top of salads, yogurt, or oatmeal for added texture and a nutty flavor. It can also provide a dose of healthy fats and fiber.
  5. Homemade Granola Bars: Incorporate ground linseed into homemade granola bars for a nutrient boost. Combine oats, nuts, dried fruits, honey or maple syrup, and a tablespoon or two of ground linseed. Press the mixture into a baking dish and let it set in the refrigerator before cutting into bars.
  6. Linseed Crackers: Mix ground linseed with water, spices, and herbs of your choice. Spread the mixture thinly on a baking sheet and bake until crispy. These homemade linseed crackers are a nutritious alternative to store-bought crackers.
  7. Linseed Oil: Linseed oil is extracted from the seeds and is often used in cooking or as a dietary supplement. It has a mild, nutty taste and is commonly used as a dressing for salads or drizzled over cooked vegetables.
