Uses for marjoram:
  1. Seasoning for meat: Dried marjoram pairs well with various meats, including lamb, beef, poultry, and pork. It adds a pleasant herbal note to dishes like roasted or grilled meats, meatballs, and sausages.
  2. Soups and stews: Marjoram is commonly used in hearty soups, stews, and chilli recipes. Its earthy and aromatic flavour complements the richness of the broth and adds depth to the overall dish.
  3. Mediterranean dishes: Dried marjoram is a staple in Mediterranean cuisine. It is used in dishes like tomato-based sauces, pizzas, pasta dishes, and vegetable stews. It imparts a warm and savoury flavour to these recipes.
  4. Salad dressings and marinades: You can incorporate dried marjoram into homemade salad dressings, marinades, and vinaigrettes. Its subtle herbaceous taste adds complexity and enhances the overall flavour profile.
  5. Herb blends: Dried marjoram is often combined with other herbs such as thyme, oregano, basil, and rosemary to create flavourful herb blends. These mixtures can be used to season roasted vegetables, grilled meats, or sprinkled over pizza.
Try: Marjoram Roasted Chicken: Ingredients:
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
Instructions:
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Rinse the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, dried marjoram, salt, black pepper, and minced garlic.
  4. Rub the marjoram mixture evenly over the chicken, ensuring it is well coated.
  5. Place the chicken in a roasting pan and roast in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  6. Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before carving.
  7. Serve the roasted chicken with your favourite sides and enjoy.
Remember, the flavour of dried herbs can be more concentrated than fresh ones, so you might want to adjust the amount of dried marjoram based on your taste preferences. Enjoy experimenting with this versatile herb in your cooking!
