Lebanese Shawarma-Spiced Savoury French Toast with Garlic Yoghurt Drizzle

You’ve heard of French toast, but have you ever tried it spiced like a Lebanese street feast? This Shawarma-Spiced Savoury French Toast transforms the humble brunch staple into something wildly flavourful. Using Greenfields Lebanese Shawarma Seasoning, garlic, and herbs, this dish is layered with the warmth of cumin, paprika, and cinnamon, and crowned with crispy fried onions for crunch. A drizzle of lemony garlic yoghurt cuts through with zing, making this a must-try for anyone who loves fusion food done right.

Perfect as a bold brunch, light supper, or unexpected party nibble.

For the savoury French toast:

  • 4 thick slices of day-old sourdough or brioche

  • 3 tbsp Greenfields Lebanese Shawarma Seasoning

  • 2 large eggs

  • 150ml whole milk

  • 1 tsp Greenfields Garlic Powder

  • ½ tsp Greenfields Ground Cumin

  • ½ tsp fine Himalayan Pink Salt

  • ½ tsp Greenfields Cracked Black Pepper

  • 2 tbsp butter, for frying

  • 2 tbsp oil, for frying

  • 3 tbsp Greenfields Crispy Fried Onions, for garnish

  • Fresh parsley or coriander, chopped (optional)

For the garlic yoghurt drizzle:

  • 100g Greek yoghurt

  • 1 garlic clove, finely grated

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • Pinch of Greenfields Himalayan Pink Salt with Garlic

  • In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, shawarma seasoning, garlic powder, cumin, salt and black pepper together until well combined.

  • Dip each slice of bread into the spiced egg mixture, letting it soak for 30 seconds on each side.

  • Heat the butter and oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the soaked bread slices for 2–3 minutes each side until golden and crisp.

  • Meanwhile, mix together all the garlic yoghurt ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.

  • Plate the toast slices, drizzle generously with garlic yoghurt, and sprinkle with crispy fried onions.

  • Finish with chopped parsley or coriander and an extra pinch of shawarma seasoning if desired. Serve warm.
