About Citric Acid

Bring a burst of brightness to your cooking with Greenfields Citric Acid – a natural flavour enhancer often called sour salt. With its clean, tangy edge, it’s an indispensable pantry ingredient that balances sweetness, sharpens flavours, and keeps foods fresh and vibrant.

Known for its versatility in both sweet and savoury dishes, citric acid is widely used in home kitchens and professional cooking alike. It’s the secret touch that prevents fruit from browning, keeps homemade jams perfectly balanced, and gives drinks that extra sparkle of sharpness. In Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking, citric acid is often used as a convenient alternative to lemon juice, adding zest without altering the texture of your dish.

Here are 10 modern and authentic ways to enjoy Greenfields Citric Acid in your cooking:

  1. Brighten up homemade hummus or baba ganoush with a pinch.

  2. Sprinkle into fruit salads to stop apples, bananas or avocados turning brown.

  3. Stir into sherbets and fizzy sweets for a nostalgic tang.

  4. Use in jams, jellies, and chutneys to balance sweetness and aid preservation.

  5. Add to sparkling water for a refreshing citrusy lift.

  6. Mix into marinades for chicken, fish, or tofu for sharper depth.

  7. Enhance soups, stews, or lentil dishes with a clean acidity.

  8. Dust into cocktail sugar rims for a lively sour twist.

  9. Preserve vibrant colours in vegetables like aubergine or courgette before cooking.

  10. Use in home pickling for crisp, sharp-tasting vegetables.

Extra tip: Citric acid is also a brilliant cupboard standby for when you’ve run out of lemons or limes – a tiny pinch goes a long way.
