Used for centuries in spice blends, curries and breads, fenugreek seeds are valued for their distinctive taste, somewhere between maple and celery, with a gentle nutty undertone. They are often toasted or dry-fried to release their rich aroma, and can also be soaked to soften their flavour. Conveniently packaged for everyday cooking, they allow home cooks to easily recreate authentic flavours that transport the senses.
Here are 10 modern and authentic ways to enjoy fenugreek seeds:
Toast and grind into curry powders and masalas for deeper flavour.
Add to lentil stews and dals for a nutty, maple-like depth.
Soak and mix into homemade flatbreads for an authentic Middle Eastern note.
Sprinkle into pickling blends for tangy chutneys and relishes.
Infuse in hot oil to create a spiced base for vegetable or meat dishes.
Blend into Ethiopian berbere or Egyptian dukkah for regional authenticity.
Use in spice rubs for lamb, chicken or grilled vegetables.
Stir a pinch into soups and broths for earthy balance.
Combine with garlic and tomato for a rich curry paste.
Brew into a soothing herbal infusion that’s been enjoyed for centuries.
Extra tip: For best results, dry-roast the seeds before grinding to mellow bitterness and bring out their natural sweetness.
“These seeds smell incredible once toasted – so aromatic.”
“I’ve used them in pickling and the results were brilliant, full of flavour.”
“Great quality, fresh and powerful taste – a staple in my spice cupboard now.”

Great for curry lovers, traditional Indian cooks, and bread makers, they’ll use fenugreek seeds to recreate restaurant-quality curries, bake spiced breads, or infuse their broths with warming depth.
Super fresh and full of bitter, nutty flavour that works well in Indian cooking. I toast them lightly before grinding and the aroma is amazing.
