15 Mins Falafel – Greenfields Quick & Easy Mix

Greenfields delicious Mediterranean appetiser mix, for crispy outside and fluffy inside falafel balls

Quick and easy – ready in 15 minutes

Serves 3-4

Falafel is best served freshly made.

Not suitable for microwave use.

  • Greenfields quick and easy falafel mix
  • Water
  • Oil for frying (such as vegetable or canola oil)
  • Optional toppings and accompaniments (try tahini sauce, tzatziki, hummus, mango chutney, pita bread, chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce)
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the falafel mix with warm water. Add water gradually and stir until you achieve a thick and slightly sticky consistency (roughly 18o ml).
  2. Allow the mixture to rest for a 10 minutes to hydrate and thicken.
  3. While the mixture rests, preheat a deep frying pan or pot with oil over medium-high heat. You’ll need enough oil to fully submerge the falafel balls.
  4. Once the oil is hot, take small portions of the falafel mixture and shape them into small balls or patties using your hands. The size may vary depending on your preference, but typically falafel balls are around 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) in diameter.
  5. Gently place the falafel balls into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them until they turn golden brown on all sides, which usually takes about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Once the falafel is cooked, remove it from the oil using a slotted spoon or a wire mesh strainer, allowing excess oil to drain.
  7. Place the cooked falafel on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any remaining oil.
  8. Repeat the frying process with the remaining falafel mixture until all the mixture is used.
  9. Serve the falafel while it’s still warm. You can enjoy it on its own or serve it in pita bread with your choice of toppings and accompaniments, such as tahini sauce, hummus, chopped vegetables, or a fresh salad.
