Dried Lime 60g

Dried Lime 60g

Dried whole limes are a popular ingredient in Middle Eastern and Persian cuisines, with a strong citrus flavour that is slightly sour and bitter. The drying process intensifies their taste, making them more pungent and concentrated compared to fresh limes. They also develop earthy and fermented notes, which contribute to their distinct flavour profile.

WHAT CAN I CREATE WITH...

Bring out the taste of dried limes:
  1. Cooking: Dried whole limes are commonly used to flavour stews, soups, and rice dishes. They can be added whole, crushed, or powdered to infuse their flavour into the dish during cooking.
  2. Spice Blends: Ground dried limes can be used as an ingredient in various spice blends, such as za’atar or Baharat, to enhance the overall flavour.
  3. Pickling: Dried limes can be used in pickling brines to impart their unique taste to preserved vegetables or fruits.
Recipe Ideas:
  1. Dried Lime Rice: Add a whole dried lime to the rice while cooking to infuse it with a tangy flavour. Remove the lime before serving.
  2. Persian Stews: Use dried whole limes in traditional Persian stews like Ghormeh Sabzi or Gheimeh to add depth and acidity to the dish. Pierce the limes a few times with a fork before adding them to the stew, and remove them before serving.
  3. Dried Lime Chicken: Marinate chicken pieces with crushed dried limes, garlic, olive oil, and spices. Grill or bake the chicken until cooked through for a tangy and flavourful main course.
  4. Dried Lime Tea: Steep a whole dried lime in hot water along with your favourite tea leaves for a unique and zesty tea experience. You can also add other herbs or spices to complement the flavour.

These dried limes are brilliant – they add a sharp citrus kick to soups, rice dishes and stews. Really lifts the whole dish without being overpowering. Lovely quality and very aromatic.
