Spicy harissa lamb & feta kofta style kebabs

Inspired by Middle Eastern cuisine, this recipe pairs the smoky heat of harissa with the savoury richness of lamb and the creamy tang of feta. The kebabs are shaped onto skewers, making them perfect for grilling or roasting. With a delightful mix of textures and bold flavours, these kebabs will soon become a household favourite.

Serves: 4

  • 500g lamb mince
  • 100g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp harissa paste
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 clove garlic, finely grated
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 8 metal or wooden skewers (soaked in water if wooden)
  1. Prepare the Mixture:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the lamb mince, crumbled feta, red onion, harissa paste, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, garlic, parsley, mint, salt, and pepper. Mix well using your hands until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Shape the Kebabs:
    Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions. Take one portion and shape it around a skewer, pressing firmly to ensure it sticks. Repeat with the remaining mixture and skewers.
  3. Cook the Kebabs:
    • Grill or Barbecue: Preheat the grill or barbecue to medium-high heat. Cook the kebabs for 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan 180°C). Place the kebabs on a lined baking tray and cook for 15–18 minutes, turning halfway through.
  4. Serve:
    Remove the kebabs from the heat and let them rest for 2–3 minutes. Serve with warm flatbreads, a crisp salad, and a drizzle of yoghurt or tahini sauce.
