Refreshing basil seed drink

A simple, delicious basil seed drink that offers a burst of flavour and a perfect for summer cooling sensation.
  • Preparation Time: 10 minutes (including soaking time for basil seeds)
  • Cooking Time: 0 minutes
  • 2 tablespoons basil seeds
  • 500 ml cold water
  • 60 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 60-80 ml honey
  • A handful of fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Soak the Basil Seeds:

  • In a small bowl, place the basil seeds.
  • Add about 1/2 cup of water to the bowl, enough to fully submerge the seeds.
  • Let the seeds soak for about 10 minutes until they swell and develop a gel-like outer layer.

Prepare the Drink:

  • In a pitcher, combine the cold water, fresh lemon juice, and honey.
  • Stir the mixture well to combine the flavors.

Add Basil Seeds and Mint:

  • After the basil seeds have soaked and expanded, drain any excess water from them.
  • Add the soaked basil seeds to the pitcher with the lemon mixture.
  • Tear or lightly bruise the fresh mint leaves to release their aroma and flavor. Add them to the pitcher as well.

Mix and Chill:

  • Stir the drink gently to distribute the basil seeds and mint leaves evenly.
  • Place the pitcher in the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour, allowing the flavours to meld.


  • Before serving, give the drink a gentle stir.
  • Fill glasses with ice cubes.
  • Pour the chilled Basil Seed Drink into the glasses.


  • Garnish each glass with a slice of lemon and a sprig of fresh mint.


  • Serve the Basil Seed Drink immediately and enjoy the refreshing and slightly tangy flavors with the added texture of the basil seeds.

Note: Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the drink by adding more or less honey, according to your preference.
