Simple veggie slaw

Perfect for young chefs. Itโ€™s colourful, easy to make, and packed with nutrients. By making this dish, children can learn about different vegetables, practice their cutting skills (with supervision), and discover new tastes and textures.

  2. Cooking Time: None
  • 1/4 small red cabbage (about 200g), finely shredded
  • 1 large carrot (about 100g), grated
  • 1 red bell pepper (about 120g), thinly sliced
  • 1 small red onion (about 70g), thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper (optional, try something new, adds a lemony, peppery taste)
  1. Shred the cabbage: Use a sharp knife or a mandoline (with adult supervision)ย  to finely shred the red cabbage. Place it in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Grate the carrot: Peel and grate the carrot. Add it to the bowl with the cabbage.
  3. Slice the pepper and onion: Thinly slice the red bell pepper and red onion. Add them to the bowl as well.
  4. Make the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, apple cider vinegar, honey, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  5. Combine: Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss everything together until the veggies are well coated.
  6. Serve: Let the slaw sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavours to meld, then serve.
